Cecilia's obituary
Cecilia Marie Stanchina (Currans) of Farmington, NH died on Thursday, November 30th, 2023, surrounded by family at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA after battling a rare but severe reaction to a medicine. Cecilia was born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 30, 1961, to Ethel Maryann Currans (Schmidt) and John Thomas Currans. She was the fourth child of five in this military family who lived in several places through her childhood including Rhode Island, El Paso, Texas, Los Angeles, California, then finally settling in her teenage years in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She ventured to Alaska where she met her husband of forty years, Russell Stanchina of Hampton, NH, who was stationed there in the U. S. Army at the time.
They traveled together for a few years and eventually settled in Farmington, New Hampshire, where they raised their family of two wonderful boys, Riley James Stanchina, Deputy Fire Chief of Milford, New Hampshire; and Isaac Joseph Stanchina, an IT Networking Associate for the Farmington School System. Cecilia spent a number of years working as a painter, and later at a children’s book warehouse, but the majority of her career, and the job she was most proud of, was as a stay-at-home mom. She was highly devoted to her children and was a constant force of support for them.
Cecilia was well-known for her love and caring for others. She always went out of her way to make extended family, friends of family, and neighbors feel like they were part of her family. She was the consummate homemaker, mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandma and friend. She was always considerate of others first and would always send gifts to great-nieces and nephews that she had yet to meet. She insisted on “doing the right thing” and wanted happiness for all. Her cooking also had an impact, with her cookies, vegetable dip platters, fried wontons, homemade pizza, quiche, and fried chicken leaving a legacy all their own. She loved NASCAR racing, and could always be found near the TV on race day, except for the September 2015 race, which she attended with Riley, Isaac and Ben.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Thomas Currans, her older sister, Mary Currans and her late mother Ethel Maryann Currans (Schmidt). She is survived by her husband Russell Stanchina; son Riley Stanchina, his wife Jamie, and their daughters; son Isaac Stanchina; sisters Terri Hudman (Currans) and Eileen Matson, brothers Johnny Currans and Anthony Currans; sister in law Pamela Currans; nieces Adele Rhoten and her husband Ryan, Destinee Chavez and her husband Patrick, Kayleigh Currans and her boyfriend Bubba Price, Josie Currans, and Justine Currans; nephews James Currans, Casey Fagundes, Jesse Currans, Luke Currans; grandchildren Eisley, Ellison and Henry; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Cecilia will be forever in our hearts and memories and will be missed beyond measure. She leaves a lasting legacy of love across many corners of the country.
