Cecilia Serafini-Smith, age 62, passed away on August 28, 2023, in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Cecilia is survived by her husband of 39 years, Kermit, and her three daughters, son, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandson, and expected granddaughter. Cecilia was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Dino and Lena Serafini. She was the youngest of four children and is survived by her older sister and two older brothers. Cecilia worked as a Registered Nurse, serving Pomona Valley Medical Center for 35 years. Throughout her tenure, Cecilia worked in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit surrounded by many friends and loving co-workers. When not working she devoted her time to spending time with her family, traveling, assisting with church ministries, and caring for her grandson. Cecilia was extremely active - she enjoyed being busy, working out, and having fun-filled days with her family and friends. On June 16, 2022, Cecilia was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. The day prior to being diagnosed she worked her normal 12-hour shift, no one could have predicted what was to come. There were minimal warning signs as pancreatic cancer did not run in the family. Cecilia endured countless rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. But throughout her entire cancer journey, she continued to ask "When can I go back to work?" She loved her PVHMC family immensely. Fourteen short months later, the cancer would win the battle, and surrounded by her family Cecilia peacefully took her last breath. June 15, 2022, came to be the last shift she would ever work. But her memory and legacy live on through her family, children, grandchildren, and friends. We remember her for her hard work ethic, the way she loved her family and friends, and her strong faith. Until we meet again one day Mama, we love you.
