Cecil's obituary
Cecil Larry Pool, 80, of Midlothian, Texas passed away on January 26, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A fifth generation Texan, Larry was born on February 25, 1945 in Huntsville, Texas, to Cecil and Mary Pool. He moved to Dallas as a young boy and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1963. Larry attended Jacksonville College from 1963 to 1965, then went on to attend Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Larry also began a career as a church pastor during this time. In 1970, Larry was hired by Mountain View College in Dallas during its inaugural year. He continued teaching within the Dallas County Community College District (now Dallas College) up until his death. During his time as a professor of history and government, he impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues. Many students remarked throughout the years how they never enjoyed history until they took Larry’s class.
Larry returned to the pulpit in 2000, when Calvary Baptist Church in Midlothian called him as their senior pastor. He served in that capacity for 20 years. He was active in his community, serving on the Midlothian Planning and Zoning Committee, volunteering weekly at the local hospital, and serving his church family at One Church Midlothian as an elder, small group leader, and social justice pastor. Larry referred to himself often as a “yellow-dog Democrat” and was active in politics all of his life. He was respected and revered by all who knew him, including many students, church members, community members, friends and family.
Larry was the beloved husband of Cherry, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his four children, and a proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Martin Pool Bennett and William Cecil Pool, and his brother William Clovis Pool. He is survived by his wife, Cherry Brooks Pool; his children Bo Bolinger of Dallas; Gina Bolinger of Midlothian; Sheri Pool Dacon and son-in-law Eric of Garland; and Keri Pool Hawkins and son-in-law Byron of Conyers, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mitchell Short, Katy Short, Kyle Dacon, Annabel Hawkins, Owen Hawkins, Travis Dacon, Sara Dacon, John Dacon, and a large, loving circle of extended family and friends.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m. at One Church in Midlothian, Texas.
