Cathy's obituary
Cathy Webber Davis (born Cathy Sue Taylor) passed away in her Midlothian home at the age of 61 on February 3rd, 2025 after almost a decade long battle with cancer.
Cathy was born on July 24th, 1963 in Fredericksburg, VA to parents Evelyn and Marion Taylor. After Cathy graduated from Spotsylvania High School in 1981, she went into the military where she was discharged due to an injury during basic training. After various jobs, she went on to find her passion at Riverside Nursing School where she became a Registered Nurse in 1997.
Cathy grew up in rural Virginia on a farm surrounded by horses and gardening. These continued to be well-loved interests throughout her life and she was most at peace when her hands were in the dirt, planting seeds. Her other calming place was the beach hearing the crashing waves--even decorating her home to bring a bit of the beach to her.
Cathy was creative and loved crafting, including crochet and sewing. She loved all kinds of music and enjoyed sharing her wonderful singing voice with others. A true animal lover, Cathy always had a canine or feline friend in her home that she spoiled endlessly on par with her human children.
Cathy had a level of resilience that no one should be forced to develop. Cancer was not her first tough life journey and it seemed the universe continued to throw challenge after challenge her way starting from a very young age. In her words, she was not a survivor or a fighter but a warrior. She did not fret new obstacles in her way as she believed God had a plan for her and would guide her through as she creatively problem solved and took each new trial head on. Throughout it all she held a gentleness that the world never offered her.
She much preferred to be a helper than receive help which shone through in her decades long nursing career. Even though she was well equipped and knowledgable to hold various management positions throughout her career, she always found her way back to patients' bedsides. She had a gravitating spirit that would draw in others around her and an attention to detail that left patient's feeling heard and respected.
When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, the script flipped and it was her turn to receive care. Still she remained a strong patient advocate; however, this time she was the patient. She fought hard to make treatment work for her and her dedication to patient-led care prepared her to assemble a care team at the Women's Cancer & Wellness Institute that valued her input and respected her choices. When Cathy made the decision in 2024 to stop chemo treatment, she continued her journey with Affinity Hospice to pursue comfort care at home with the assistance of her daughter.
Cathy is preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Taylor (Williams), and father Marion "Buddy" Taylor. She is survived by her brother, Wayne Taylor, two children and daughter-in-law, Christopher Webber, Taylor Hohle (Davis), and Emily Hohle. Cathy wished not to have a service but instead will have her family spread her ashes at the beach and in the mountains for her final resting place.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Patient Advocate Foundation in support of their Co-Pay Relief Program which allowed Cathy to continue her treatment despite financial hardship. While she ensured her estate covered all debts, any monetary gifts to the family will be paid towards those debts to allow the estate funding to extend further.
