Cathy's obituary
Cathy Dawn (Fenno) Mercer passed away peacefully in her home in Frewsburg, NY, on Saturday, October 14th, 2023.
She was born on November 29th, 1959, to Carl D. Fenno and Ila M. Graham (Long) in Union City, PA.
She was preceded in death by her father Carl D. Fenno, brothers Mark Fenno and Carl “Butch” Fenno and stepfather Allan Long.
The legacy of her life will continue to live on through those she left behind - her life partner of 17 years, Laurie Collingwood, daughter Miranda Mercer, granddaughter Sydney Millspaw and her closest friends Leda Peterson and Andrea Waddington.
Many beautiful memories of her will be carried on through her family. Her mother Ila Long, siblings Carla (Kevin) Mosher, Timothy (Peggy) Long, Tricia “Shish” Long, Traci “Tilly” Long and so many more of her dearest friends, nieces, nephews and other family members.
She grew up in Corry, PA, where she spent most of her early life. For the past 21 years, she has called the Jamestown, NY, area her home. With her partner Laurie, she settled in Frewsburg, NY, where they created a life and home filled with love, friendship, fun and enough stories to fill the pages of a book. They shared their home with their beloved dogs, River and Iggy.
Cathy did not let life pass her by without getting as much enjoyment out of it as possible. She will always be remembered as the life of the party and she thrived on entertaining those around her with her sense of humor and her ability to make everyone feel welcome in her presence.
When Cathy wasn’t showing off her skills on the golf course, you could find her on the river kayaking with her friends, camping, cooking (and watching the Cooking Channel) and bird watching. She loved having her friends over for campfires on the weekends and for football on Sundays.
She found so much joy in being a “Grammy” and watching her granddaughter Sydney play softball. She was Sydney’s biggest fan and could be heard cheering her on from the stands throughout every game she attended. She never missed an opportunity to tell her daughter how proud she was of her, for her accomplishments in life and as a mom to Sydney.
Services will be held privately at the request of the family.
