Cathy's obituary
Cathy Margree Marshall (née Fox), beloved mother and grandmother, made her journey home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2025, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Born on March 28, 1959, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Cathy was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her quiet strength and loving presence.
Cathy graduated from Spotsylvania High School in June 1977. She later pursued higher education at J. Sargeant Reynolds in Henrico, Virginia, and worked toward an associate degree in psychology at Germanna Community College. She took great pride in the work-study program she participated in during her psychology studies.
A woman of faith, Cathy was a Christian with family roots at Beulah Baptist Church in Woodford, Virginia. She found comfort and connection through her faith and cherished the time spent with loved ones.
Cathy had a passion for journaling and was an avid reader who particularly enjoyed Alex Cross mystery novels. She also had a playful side—she was known for her love of solitaire and for occasionally bending the rules while playing Gin Rummy. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and family. Whether dining out or simply being together at holiday events, those moments brought her immense joy.
She is survived by her daughter, LaToya Marshall-Gronhoff; her sons, Emmanuel Marshall and Graham Gronhoff (son-in-law); and her beloved grandchildren: N’tya Robinson, Christina Hiner, My’kell Lewis, Ny’rique Lewis, Connor Gronhoff, and Zoë Gronhoff. She also leaves behind her siblings: Marilyn Reynolds, Darlene Winn, Carl Fox Sr., Eugene Fox (Mary), Cheryl Fox; her ex-husband, Michael A. Marshall Sr. as well as dear friend and co-caregiver, Ruby Wilson . Cathy’s extended family includes numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James "Harding" Fox and Margaret "Margaree" L. Fox; her son Michael A. Marshall Jr. “Tang”; and her brothers Alfred "Freddie" Fox Sr. and James "Jimbo" Fox.
A visitation will be held on February 28, 2025, from 12 PM to 2 PM at Covenant Funeral Home (10830 Patriot Hwy., Fredericksburg, VA 22408), followed by a funeral service at the same location from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. Interment will take place at Beulah Baptist Church (5216 Arcadia Rd., Woodford, VA 22580). A repast will follow immediately after at the Spotsylvania Sunday School Union Park site (7543 Courthouse Rd., Spotsylvania VA 22551).
Although her departure from this earthly plane was sudden and unexpected, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
