Cathy's obituary
With loving memories, we remember our beloved mom, grandma, sister, and friend, Cathy. Born in Pouce Coupe, BC, to Bob and Lucy Rowe, Cathy's life was a testament to love, strength, and resilience.
Cathy spent her childhood in Dawson Creek with her parents and two younger sisters, Shelly and Cristy. As the eldest, she formed a special bond with her Grandma Ada, who lived nearby, and built friendships there that she cherished for the rest of her life.
After graduation, Cathy pursued journalism at Grande Prairie Regional College. She later moved to the Lower Mainland, where she found her passion at a local newspaper. The birth of her first child in 1987 marked a new chapter – one where family became her everything.
For 13 years, Cathy was a devoted stay-at-home mom who poured her heart into raising her children. She later returned to work with Stats Canada and small airlines in Alberta. Her love and pride shone brightest in her roles as mom to Layce (Mitch) and Myles (Sarah), and as “Gramma” to Sloan, Arlo, Sunny, and Jones. She cherished weekends with her son’s family in Sherwood Park and made 10 trips to Puerto Vallarta to visit her daughter’s family.
Witty and opinionated, Cathy loved a good chat and held strong beliefs about right and wrong. A fighter, she faced cancer twice with courage and determination. She was happiest with family and friends, but also valued her time alone — journaling, tending her tomatoes, staying up to date on current events, and cuddling her cat, Molson. Though health challenges were part of her story, family and friendship defined it. Her phone was always buzzing with texts and calls from her kids, sisters, extended family, and best friends. Together they spent hours talking through everything from politics and health worries to the simple joys in life and the latest family news.
We'll miss her calls, her hugs, and her unwavering love. Rest in peace, Mom 🌷
