Catherine's obituary
Catherine “Kaye” Joyce Torrance Hancock, 84, of Cape Coral, FL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 9, 2023 after an extended battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Kaye was born in Illinois to Merlyn and Lucille Torrance. After Kaye graduated from Kewanee High School, she went on to study English and Education at Western Illinois University.
After graduating with a degree in Education, she started her first job as a high school English teacher. She then moved to Washington, DC, and she and her husband started a design, manufacture, and furniture retail company that eventually expanded to six locations in the DC Metro area. In 1975, Kaye moved to Greensboro, North Carolina and started a successful, 30-year career in real estate, managing and owning a real estate brokerage firm, and eventually serving as the president of the Greensboro Board of Realtors.
Kaye always loved the state of Florida, finally realizing her dream of moving to Southwest Florida in 2010 after her retirement. She spent her time in retirement volunteering at her church, serving on the Homeowner’s Association board for her community, and spending time with friends and family, many of whom followed her lead in moving to Florida.
Kaye was predeceased by her parents, Merlyn and Lucille Torrance. She is survived by her daughters, Karrie Robertson (Dean), Kathleen Edwards, and Kimberly Kramm, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in North Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday, June 13 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, an organization Kaye felt strongly about due to their ongoing research on the early identification, treatment, and cure for Parkinson’s Disease.
