Lucille's obituary
Lucille "Lu" Hlavenka gained her angel wings on July 16, 2022. Lu was 73 years old.
Born in Manhattan, Kansas, raised in Louisiana, Lu eventually made her way to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she met her husband of over 50 years, George Hlavenka. After relocating to Georgia, Lu pursued her long-held dream of running her own bed & breakfast until she retired and moved with her husband to Hawaii.
Lu was best known for her love of cooking, as well as her quick wit and never-ending sense of humor. Despite living with Parkinson’s Disease for many years, she never let her increasing physical challenges slow her down. One of her favorite hobbies was driving her golf cart around the neighborhood with her dog Huckleberry next to her. Not a day went by where Lu didn't talk about how much her children and family meant to her. Lu is survived by her loving husband, George Hlavenka, her brother, James Grunewald, her children, Carl Hlavenka and Joy Hlavenka, her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Nellis, her granddaughter, Fiona Nellis, her dog, Huckleberry, her niece, Stephanie Newcombe, her nephew, Rodd Newcombe, and countless friends. Lu was predeceased by her father, Edward Grunewald, her mother, Jane Saint Grunewald, and her sister, Jane Ellen Newcombe. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to either the Maui Humane Society, an organization very dear to Lu, or The Parkinson’s Foundation.
