Catherine's obituary

Catherine Hedden, 92, passed away on December 29, 2020.

Catherine (Kitty) was born on February 18 to Alice and Tom Egan in NYC. She attended boarding school at Georgian Court prior to Mount Saint Mary's Academy.

After graduation, she landed her first job as a research assistant for Bell Laboratories.

Catherine lived in Berkeley Heights, Mendham and Normandy Beach New Jersey. Her full-time residence was in Boynton Beach Florida.

In 1943 she met Alfred Hedden, and they wed in 1950, going on to parent two children, Thomas and Kathleen.

When Catherine had her family, she decided to dedicate her life to being a mother.

While at Mount Saint Mary's Catherine played basketball, field hockey, softball, received 12 Letters and was a drum majorette. She played competitive ping pong at Bell Laboratories and at home. She enjoyed golf and bridge, was a champion Scrabble player and later excelled at Words With Friends. Catherine was an avid fan of Jeopardy. She enjoyed playing the piano and when she wasn't filling her home with music, she volunteered for Hospice.

Catherine was the loving mother of Thomas (Tom)Hedden, his wife, Dana of Mantoloking N.J. and Kathleen (Katie)Hedden and her husband Gerard (Jay) DeBoey of Long Valley, N.J.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband Alfred, her daughter Kathleen Hedden and her infant children Brian and Ann Hedden. She is survived by her son Tom, his wife Dana Hedden, her son in law Jay DeBoey, Granddaughter Jessica DeBoey, her partner Nick Wilson, grandson Scott and a great granddaughter Faye Wilson.

A special thank you to Robert Beekman, Robert and Barbara Hedden, Rita O'Connor, her brother Michael O'Connor, his wife Ronnie and Ann Marie Quigley for their phone calls, visits and continued support following her stroke. Our devoted caregiver Hyacinth was a blessing to us all. Catherine is also survived by treasured friends of many, many years.

She was a nature lover and enjoyed caring for her wild birds. If you would like to plant a tree in her memory in a National Forest or a place of your choice, that would be lovely. We would also welcome donations to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital one of her choices.
