Catherine's obituary

Catherine “Cathie” Cruz Funtanares Deloso

Sunset: April 8, 2025 | Sacramento, California

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine “Cathie” Cruz Funtanares Deloso, who left us peacefully on April 8, 2025, in Sacramento, California.

Cathie was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother, known for her creativity, passion, and deep love for her family. She will be fondly remembered for her love of the color purple, her fascination with butterflies, her sharp sense of humor, and her vibrant spirit. A fan of scary movies, sci-fi, and fantasy, Cathie brought a youthful energy and a full-hearted enthusiasm to everything she did.

She was often the second mom to many — welcoming, outspoken, and full of life. Selfless and wise, she had a gift for offering great advice, a fresh perspective on the world, and a shoulder to lean on during life’s challenges. Her curated, thoughtful gifts were just one way she showed how deeply she cared.

Cathie valued her family above all else. She dedicated herself to building strong, loving bonds, always reminding others how proud she was of her children. She was committed to kindness, community, and helping others whenever she could. She cherished quality time with her children, often using it to teach them new skills—whether crafting, knitting, or playing tabletop games together, she created lasting memories through both creativity and play. Whether bowling, gaming, caring for her grandchildren and parents, or loving on her grand-dogs, Cathie poured her heart into every moment. She especially found peace by the water and at the beach, places that brought her joy and calm.

A gifted crafter and knitter, Cathie found happiness in sharing her love through hand made crafts. She was an avid reader and a passionate gamer, spending countless hours immersed in World of Warcraft and Diablo. Through these games, she built an online community where she extended her compassion, humor, and care, forging friendships that reflected the same love she gave in person. Yet nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her family.

Cathie is survived by her devoted daughters, Naomi and Shannon; her loving sons, Chris and BJ; her cherished parents, Will and Frenie; and her treasured grandchildren, Jeanette and Jordan.

Cathie’s spark for life shone brightly in all she did. Her warmth, laughter, and creativity touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at Magellan Hall in Sacramento, California.
