Catherine's obituary

Catherine Lynn Braniff passed away peacefully on December 19, 2020. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by all of those that were lucky enough to know her.

Cathy was born March 1, 1946 in Salem, Illinois to John and Mickey Black. She was the second child of 5 siblings. Cathy was raised in Snyder, Texas. She had an adventurous spirit and a desire to enjoy all life had to offer. While this caused some consternation with her parents at times, her siblings knew her fearless nature could always be counted on for fun times. After high school, Cathy attended Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, and later received her degree from St. Thomas University in Houston, Texas.

She married Thomas Matthew Braniff and had two children, Farrah and Rhett Braniff. She lived a majority of her life in Houston, Texas, where she was a dedicated mother, a fantastic cook, and an avid runner.

Cathy loved fine food, fine wine, and time with her family. She would light up a room, and was always certain to be part of the action. She loved all animals, but none more than her dogs, Mia and Max. Her creative spirit could be seen in her homes and her gardens. She had many, and every one underwent a massive renovation or redesign so that it could have her specific signature on it. Seeing her vision become a reality was always such a joy to her and her family.

She never met a stranger…literally. She was always willing to stop and have a conversation, with anyone, anywhere, and she quickly made friends.

She is survived by her children, Farrah Braniff and Rhett and Emily Braniff; her grandchildren Sayer, Finnian and Einin Charnquist, and Loudon, Gibson, and Jolene Braniff; her siblings Pat and Pam Black, Greg and Michelle Flaniken, Bob and Anne Linkous and Suzanne Clark; and her dog Max.

No time is guaranteed, no opportunity will seize itself. Take a chance today, hug your family and friends, and have a nice glass of pinot.
