Catharine's obituary
On the morning of October 31st, 2022 Catharine Ann Houston (Kujath) passed at the age of 77. The peaceful beginning of her next adventure was the result of a life defined by her family and her faith. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Jennifer (Mauga), her sister Margaret, her nephew Cole, 6 grandchildren; Jacob (Amanda), Julianna (Joe), Kaliah, Meilani (Leki), Mateo, Isaac; and her 4 great-grandchildren Nohea, Zion, Makena, and Makoa.
With her unique perspective and incredible imagination Cathy brought creativity and determination to every task she took on. She was a gifted storyteller. Whether in the classrooms that she taught in for over 30 years or while creating worlds of fairies for her grandchildren, Cathy’s enthusiasm brought the worlds she was describing to life. Her eagerness extended to the people she cared for – she would spend hours helping her grandchildren study and complete their schoolwork. Catharine usually offered words of encouragement. Other times it was her trademark sigh that expressed exactly how she was feeling.
Kip, as she was often lovingly called, treasured learning and knowledge. She was very proud of the master’s degree in Education that she earned from City University. She was an avid reader – she always had several books on the go at one time, and often kept track of them by where she stored them; a “kitchen book”, a “purse book”, and a “car book” were just the tip of the iceberg. Catharine’s ability to keep track of each story was especially impressive when one considers how often she lost less important things, such as her car keys.
Though she stood at barely 5’2, the impact she has left on the lives of those around her cannot be measured. She will be greatly missed. The public is welcome to join Catharine’s family at her service on Wednesday, December 21st at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 6300 Tyson Rd, Chilliwack, British Columbia, V2R 3G8.
