Casilde's obituary
Casilde Betancourt, age 95, passed away on January 11, 2023 in Placentia, CA.
Casilde Betancourt, daughter of Antonio Castelli and Giovanna Angelini, was born on 8 January 1928 in the town of Ascoli Piceno, Italy, which lies on the ancient “salt road” and pre-dates Rome’s founding by several centuries. She was one of six siblings.
After a childhood imbued with the sustaining wisdom of time-tested traditions, Casilde emigrated to the United States in December 1947, accompanied by her younger sister.
In 1949, Casilde was living with family in Washington DC when she met Esteban Betancourt. They married in 1950 and embarked on a 68-year union that blessed them with five children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Casilde was a true epicurean who valued moderation and relished life’s simple pleasures: a vibrant garden overflowing with fragrant herbs and vegetables; the delicate design of her own needlework; the rustic flavors that permeated her celebrated kitchen creations.
Casilde is survived by her five children, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one sister.
Casilde was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
