Carrie's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carrie "Polly" Williams on March 23, 2019. Known to some as Polly, she preferred the name Carrie and lived a life full of vitality and purpose. Born on July 16, 1933, Carrie leaves behind a legacy filled with love, wisdom, and many cherished memories.
Carrie is mourned by her daughters,Karen Francis of Philadelphia, PA, Sherri Randall of Arlington, TX, who will remember their mother's warmth and spirit. She is also survived in memory by her sister Brenda Glaze (Herbert) of Burton, SC, brothers Randy Brown(Kiruth) of Columbia, SC, Darryl Brown (Joyce) of Irmo, SC, and David Brown(Loretha)of Saluda,SC , four grandchildren , 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who knew and loved her. Preceding her in death were her husband Samuel Williams, beloved brother, James Brown, and her mother, Lydia Brown. Their love and influence remained with Carrie throughout her life and brought her much solace.
Carrie was an accomplished woman, having graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1951 and later earning her B.A. in Elementary Education from Benedict College in 1955. Despite the challenges of working and raising her family, Carrie achieved her M.A. degree, a testament to her determination and belief that nothing is impossible and that nothing good comes easily.
In her free time, Carrie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved sipping Coca-Cola or coffee while enjoying a good book or knitting. Travelling and shopping were also passions of hers. Her preferred local spots included Red Lobster, Chili's, and Applebees, places where she often shared delightful meals with those dear to her.
Sensitive to the beauty of art, Carrie found inspiration in Motown artists and Broadway theatre. She particularly loved watching performances of "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide," a show that resonated with her deeply.
Carrie was known for her wit, her secretiveness, and her love for her family. Her generosity and kindness will be a part of her lasting legacy, remembered by all who knew her. She cared deeply about the American Heart Association and her commitment to this cause reflected her caring nature.
Though Carrie's physical presence will be missed, her spirit lives on. Her lessons, her love, and her memories continue to touch the lives of those who knew her. She leaves behind not only the sorrow of her passing, but also the joy of her life. May Carrie "Polly" Williams rest in peace. Interment is at the West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.
