Background

Carolyn lost her battle with breast cancer in a matter of months after finally being properly diagnosed. She had given birth to a healthy baby right before the pandemic and was working driving school buses. The pandemic hit and she was laid off without access to health and life insurance. She began feeling ill and discovered a breast lump in one of her breasts around March of 2020, but she had a difficult time getting a doctor to see her without insurance and during the hike of COVID-19. As a result she was not properly screened and diagnosed for cancer until 6 months later although she kept telling her doctors she was not feeling well and discovered a lump in her breast. Their response was that she had a milk duct clogged as a result of postpartum breastfeeding and they continued to ignore the obvious. She was caught in the middle of a system that responded harshly to the most vulnerable during these times. Carolyn’s story further reveals the deep economic and racial disparities in the medical system that to often failed to listen to the patient but instead ignores them. Millions of Americans were laid off as a result of the pandemic and left with little to no choices. Carolyn happens to be one of them. Nothing could have prepared us for such a quick and harsh death for a case that was manageable if only someone listened. Nothing could have prepared Carolyn or the family with what was to come. More so she leaves behind love ones who so greatly needs and depends on her. It is with great sadness that we grieve the loss of our beloved family member, Carolyn Victoria Haynes (mother of 7). May you find it in your heart to give towards funeral arrangements especially for the little ones she loved so dearly and worried about during her final days. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated! Contribute   Right arrow
