Personal note

I met Carolyn at the Savoy in 1973 where Carolyn was a cocktail waitress known and loved by everyone. I didn't know anyone there at the time. She introduced me and made me feel at home. Carolyn was always a lady no matter the circumstance. It led me to dedicate the song "Three Times, A Lady" to her which she later put on her new car's license plate and her daughter Nicole put on her cemetery marker (ref. photo). Carolyn would help anyone that needed her. When I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 1978 with a life expectancy of 1 year if doctors could achieve remission Carolyn was there to help. Carolyn from the day I was diagnosed moved in and took care of me and my 15-year-old son. She kept me from losing my house because I was unable to work or pay the mortgage payment and my bills. She did all this and worked traveling 30 miles one way to her job, then she came to see me at the hospital every night. On one of the rare times, I could get home something happened that doubled me up in pain. By then I was going through chemotherapy, bald-headed, and lost a lot of weight. She got my son to pick me up and carry me to the van. She broke all speed limits to get me to El Camino Hospital scared the entire time I would die. She was stopped by a police officer and when she told him about me he cautiously went to the side door, opened them up, saw me, and said follow me. After arriving at the hospital emergency, the staff rolled me inside, and she told the officer you can give me that ticket now. He told her, no, but please just call ahead the next time. I was touch and go many times but Carolyn was fantastic and always stayed the course. I will never know how she did it all. I know I couldn't have. She did it all while caring for my son and me, working two jobs, caring for the house, and driving many miles a day to work, home, and the hospital. Carolyn saved my life and remained my lifelong friend from 1973 - 2009 when she passed from this place. Together in 1979, we planned our daughter Nicole Cherie's, birth the following May 1980. There will never be another Carolyn Peoples who gave so much. She is in my heart and I remember her with love every day of my life. She left us with our beautiful, driven, smart, and talented Nicole Cherie. I know she is immensely proud of watching her graduate with a master's, marry, and have a beautiful 3-year-old boy. We love you, Carolyn. Thank you for life and the many gifts you gave each of us. What a special person you are. The world is not a better place now that you've gone.
