Carolyn's obituary
Carolyn was born on November 27, 1941 to Marvel Stordahl Kallsen and Theodore John Kallsen in New Ulm, MN. After graduating from Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, TX in 1959, she went on to study English at the University of Texas at Austin.
After graduation, she landed her first job as a high school English teacher at Lubbock High School. She and Harold Pate had dated in high school and college, and they wed in 1963. A few years later, they moved to Florida, and in 1968 in St. Augustine, FL, they had their first and only child, Shana. When Carolyn had Shana, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. She remained a full-time stay-at-home mom, through various moves to Colorado and Arizona and back to Colorado, until Shana went to high school, and then Carolyn returned to teaching high school English, in Colorado and then in Austin. After Shana graduated from high school, Carolyn pursued her Master's Degree at Texas State University where she was an English instructor and eventually became the Grants Coordinator for the University, the job from which she retired in 2009. Carolyn excelled at supporting people around her, and she inherently improved the lives of others. She loved people, especially her daughter and her grandchildren; she loved to travel, especially to New York City and Europe; she loved to be outdoors, especially at the Dixie Dude Ranch. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Marvel Stordahl Kallsen and Theodore John Paul Kallsen. She is survived by her daughter, Shana Pate Dudley (husband, Matt Dudley), grandsons, Elliot Theodore Pate Moulton and Isaac Benjamin (Ben) Moulton, her younger sister Tonya Jo Kallsen Vining (husband Bill Vining) and nephews Macon Vining and TJ Vining (wife Emma).
