Carolyn's obituary
Carolyn Reitzer Kelly of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, just days before her 80th birthday on September 17.
Carolyn’s life was marked by resilience, love, and the gift of family. In October 1985, she endured the tragic loss of her first husband, Larry Dudley, and their 13-year-old daughter, Melinda, in a drunk driving accident. Though her heart always carried the memory and love of Larry and Melinda, Carolyn found the strength to move forward, choosing to embrace life with grace and courage.
In time, she met and married a remarkable man, Timothy Wayne Kelley. For 37 years, Carolyn and Tim shared a loving partnership that became the foundation of their family and community. Through Tim, Carolyn’s family grew, surrounded by the warmth and connection of the Kelley brothers and their families. Together, Carolyn and Tim opened their hearts and home to others, including their niece Amanda, whom they helped raise with love and care. Carolyn also became a guardian and guiding light for Amanda’s daughters, Samantha and Ashley, providing shelter, support, and affection that continued through Carolyn’s final days.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband, Timothy Wayne Kelley; her sister, Janelle Kelley; and her two sons: Robert Dudley and his wife Carla, along with their children Sam, Candace, Jud, Susannah, Carmel, Ari, Lillie, and Nate; and Brian Dudley and his wife Judith, with his sons Justin and Drue. Carolyn’s love extended to Judith’s children—David, Elizabeth, and Daniel—who she embraced as her own. Carolyn and Tim were also blessed to share in the joy of the great-grandchildren. She is further survived by four of Tim’s brothers—Allen, Terry, Clarence, and John—and their families.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Melinda Dudley, first husband Larry Dudley, her mother Virginia Reitzer, and her brother Steve Reitzer.
Carolyn will be remembered as a woman of extraordinary love, strength, and generosity. She filled her home with compassion, laughter, and a spirit of acceptance that touched every person she met. While her passing leaves a profound void, her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with loved ones in a place of peace and joy.
Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory and carry her love in their hearts until they meet again.
