Carolyn's obituary

It is with deep sorrow but also celebration that we announce the passing of our Mom "Carolyn "Maw-Maw" Haigler", who stepped into eternity with our Lord and Savior on May 10, 2025. Born in August, 1934 to Henry and Nellie Adcock, Carolyn was a strong pillar of our family and community and will forever be remembered for her abundant service and infectious spirit.

Mom was a beacon of strength and resilience. Known to her 38 grand-children, great-grandchildren and even a great, great grandchild, as Maw-Maw, she was known as Carolyn to most others.  Her unwavering determination, tenacity, kindness, and generosity left an indelible impact on those fortunate to have known her.  Possessing an energetic and competitive zest for life, Carolyn taught us many unforgettable lessons, notably the art of serving others with an open heart and the many strategic ways to play scrabble. Her steadfastness was a source of comfort and her tenaciousness was truly incredible.

The legacy Carolyn leaves behind is one of generosity and loving her family/friends the best she could.  Among her most treasured accomplishments was raising her family to have unwavering trust in Jesus.  She stayed a faithful and God fearing wife for over 58 yrs.  A staunch advocate and servant of her community, Carolyn devoted many hours to the boys home organization in New Mexico,  several alzheimer's/dementia patients as well as many, many people that crossed her path as a testament to her selfless heart.

Carolyn's love for life was evident with some of her interests. She cherished the simple pleasures, like cooking family meals of chicken and dumplings, biscuits, cornbread, pinto and navy beans as well as too many foods to list.  A lover of literature, her favorite reads included.... The Bible, the Scrabble dictionary, newspapers as she devoured just about anything she set out to read.  Musically, she was moved by The Cathedrals, Mike Adkins, and the Bill Gaither group and sung in her church's choir.

Her taste in television and film leaned towards Mama's family, The Price is Right, soap operas, and baseball games. She also favored movies like The Color Purple and Not Without My Daughter. Old people figurines were counted among her favorite pieces of art.  A fairly big sports fan, Carolyn supported the Atlanta Braves and admired the racing skill of Jeff Gordon. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Scrabble, walking, and spending time in the mountains in the fall when she could.  Carolyn's favorite place was anywhere in the presence of her family and friends.

She worked at many jobs throughout her life, in her early  years at the  cotton mill and Armor meat company to Angelo's restaurant in Waxhaw NC as a short order breakfast cook.  Carolyn went on to work at the  PTL club as a phone counselor.  Later in life she became a massage therapist and was one of the best.  All of this while making sure her family  was in church and making a life at home.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters Lynette Carland, Donna Mical, and Wanda Guion (husband Scott Guion) as well as her son's Curtis Haigler ( wife Rebecca Haigler) and Mark Waid (wife Angelica Waid). They will miss her dearly and will hold dear the many Sunday dinners which were the highlight of Carolyn's talents and the embodiment of her love. Her cherished memory will forever be preserved in the hearts of those who's lives she was a part of.

Her legacy will continue to inspire us to serve and do for others just as she did.  Her life was a testament to the belief that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Rest in everlasting peace, Carolyn "Maw-Maw" Haigler.  We'll be along with you one day....
