Carolyn's obituary
Good morning! It’s me, Carolyn “Cookie” Davis. As you know, I made my early transition on October 21, 2017, so my address has changed. I now live at Heaven’s Gate Mansion, on Everlasting Joy Highway, in the “No More Pain and Suffering” section. I’m so happy here!
I was born to Bennie Wise (Davis) and Charles Davis on November 30, 1948 in Havre de Grace, MD. They both preceded me into this new life. I saw them shortly after I got here, and we’ve already scheduled a family reunion!
After leaving Maryland, I moved with my parents to Philadelphia early in my childhood. I started my first job during my senior year in high school as a Receptionist at Diamond Family Medical Center. I was educated in the School District of Philadelphia, and in 1966, I graduated from Kensington High School.
In November 1964, I received one of my favorite presents! My daughter, Chloette was born two days before my birthday, and I was ecstatic about it! I was blessed again eight years later, in August, when my son André was born to complete our trio. I am completely overwhelmed with joy and love for them. They make me so proud, and I wear them like a sparkling badge of honor.
After my children were born, I became a licensed beautician after completing evening classes at Wilfred Beauty Academy. From 1966 to 1993, I was employed at the United States Postal Service. When I was younger, my local mailman always let me deliver the mail to all of the neighbors on my block, and I grew up really wanting to work for the Post Office. I served my first 10 years as a Mail Handler, and finished my years as a Mail Processor. Working there was a dream come true for me, and I loved going to work every day. Unfortunately, because of a slip and fall accident, I retired on disability in the early 90s.
This ended up being one of the best things to ever happen to me, because it allowed me to spend more time with the greatest joys of my life, my grandchildren. I’m sure you often heard me say, “If I knew grandchildren would be this much fun, I would've had them first!” I love my grandchildren unconditionally, and I mean that literally. Being their Me-Mom gave me endless memories! My life revolved around my Prince and Princess for the greater part of their childhood, and I never regretted a single second of it.
The two of them were the beginning of the unofficial “Me-Mom Daycare,” where I was able to help raise children throughout our family, and neighborhood. Whenever a baby was born in our family, I opened my arms and my heart to watch over them, and teach them all that I could until they were ready for school.
As a result of my sincere and profound love for God, I joined Ezekiel Baptist Church in 2005 under the pastoral leadership of Pastor King. Under his guidance, I grew in my faith and love of God. I adored my Church family. I became and remained a Christian Education Secretary until my illness, and volunteered as often as I could.
With that being said, my life on Earth has been full. But I must tell you that being in my heavenly mansion is my best reward ever. As soon as I arrived, my sisters and brother, Cheryl, Carol, and Shawn were waiting for me. They couldn't wait to show me where Mommy and Daddy were!
When I transitioned to heaven on October 21, 2017, I left to cherish my memories one daughter, Chloette Savage, one son, André Davis, and one son-in-law, Bruce Savage Jr. I left my sisters; Charlene Davis, Cindy Davis, and Charlotte Davis, grandchildren; Bruce Savage III (Shelby), my Princess, Chanice Savage (my Baby, Shira), extended grandchildren, DeVanté WIlson, and Chandra Savage, great grandchildren, Bruce IV, Camielle, and Si’Niyah, a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins who I loved dearly, and close friends who felt more like family.
To most I was, “Aunt Cookie,” to many I was, “Me-Mom.” I love you all from the bottom of my heart. I know you will miss getting sweet red kisses on the cheek as much as I will miss giving them to you. You are all important to me in different ways, and I have faith that you will keep our family solid and strong.
Well, it’s almost time for the family reunion, but before I go, I have a few things to say. To my Ezekial Church family, thank you for accepting me. The love and care given to me by you was God sent. To my “baby girls” Penny, Cindy and Buggy, lean on each other. I left with comfort knowing you all will rely on each other for strength.
To my Pebbles and André, you did exactly what I needed you to do, but it was time for me to go. Keep your faith. Always put God first as I taught you. He will help you live strong in my absence, until we meet again. Continue your journey as my beautiful duo. Your bond as brother and sister bring me immeasurable joy. To my Prince and Princess, I leave you two with all that I’ve taught you. I have been so blessed to see the fruits of my labor. Brucie, watching you become the man you have for your family is all I ever needed. I am honored to call you my grandson. Princess, you have continually blossomed into the courageous young woman I always knew you were. Keep your chin up, and your crown on. I am so very proud of the both of you.
And lastly to my great grandchildren, Chum, Camie and Niyah, I leave you with comfort knowing that I’m watching over those who are watching over you. I enjoyed every second of watching the three of you grow, and I’ll continue watching from my new awesome view.
Family, friends, I love ya’ll!
To God be the Glory!
Love, Carolyn “Cookie” Davis
