Heartfelt condolences to Nils, Luke, Celina and the family. May Caroline's Soul Rest In Peace and may you have peace of mind.

Love,
Harmik & Maha Vartanians.
My last conversation with Caroline was the Monday before she passed. She was always so great about reaching out...I have so many texts and IM's and emails. Sometimes it was about IEP paperwork, but sometimes it was just a funny story or a vent. I really loved having her on our RSP team. She made us more cohesive and connected, just by being her.

On this particular Monday, we were having our regular weekly collaboration meeting. Since COVID started, these were held over Zoom. Like our texts and emails, these meetings ran the gamut from what the best intervention math curriculum was, to how do we schedule statewide testing, to OMG I need a glass of wine and a day of Netflix and kids that clean up after themselves.

I had raced home after our students left to have our meeting from there, which was not usual. Caroline was at work. At first, it was just the two of us, as our teammate, Melissa, was finishing up a meeting. I was telling Caroline how I had some sort of allergic reaction to new laundry detergent and had to run home to change. This launched us into a Very Important Educational Conversation about laundry detergents. Caroline was saying how she's super sensitive and has to use the Tide Free. "That's what I was using!" I responded. "But I tried these new pods and now we're all itchy."

"You know what it is about the Pods?" Caroline responded. "What I've noticed is if you do cold wash, they don't dissolve all the way."

"Well," I said, "I think they didn't dissolve right into my underwear."

And then Caroline let out a huge belly laugh. It lit up my kitchen through zoom. I remember actually stopping for a second and noticing how beautiful her smile was. I felt inordinately proud for making her guffaw during a super stressful time, even if it was a little bit of TMI.

We went on to talk about CAASPP testing, organizing classrooms for the following year, staff changes. She spoke about specific students and what she was working on for them. We talked a little bit about Luke and the pros and cons of having a kid with an August birthday into Kindergarten. We signed off a while later, saying we'd chat soon.

Of course, Caroline being Caroline, she messaged the elementary RSP team the next day about some detail or another. I loved our running little online chats. She was such a fabulous professional, always bringing up questions or offering suggestions. And she was a pistol--feisty in a wonderful way. She was invested and cared about the students, her colleagues, and the district. She would have been an agent for change for years to come.

I'm so grateful I was able to be her buddy teacher and colleague. She made such an impression on me over two short years, and I feel the loss so deeply, that I can't imagine how her inner circle feels. My heart goes out to you all.

With Love,
Ami

I loved working with Caroline at CHS, we shared the challenges and joys of working with several special needs students. I especially remember Tony, an incredible young man, who made us both smile and laugh. She will be deeply missed.

There are no words to describe how very much Caroline will be missed. She was a breath of sunlight to everyone she touched. My last conversation with Caroline was when I told her that her son Luke mentioned to me that he was coloring something with the color “aqua” because it was his mom’s favorite color. When I mentioned this to Caroline at school, she had a big smile on her face.
Now every time I see the color aqua I will remember her. Sending love and prayers to the family. I will miss her so much 💗
Caroline was a kind, loving and caring teacher. Her beautiful smile was magical and brought joy to our days. Her patience and her genuine bond with her students, was unique and she never failed to advocate for her them. My family and I miss her tremendously and she has a very special place in our hearts forever.
