Carole's obituary
Carole Antoinette Wheeler, 72, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away surrounded by the love she so freely gave to everyone she met.
Born and raised in Salem, Virginia, Carole made Richmond her home for over 45 years. Wherever she was, she had a gift for making people feel loved and welcomed the moment they met her.
Carole was, above all, a woman of strong faith and led a life of service. Alongside her husband of 50 years, Neil Wheeler, she devoted herself to ministry, serving multiple churches and ministry families with grace, sacrifice, and joy. She and Neil both attended Johnson Bible College, which held a special place in her heart. Carole worked for Chesterfield County Public Schools as a teaching assistant in Special Education classrooms followed by time as a Child Safety Officer for Chesterfield County Police Department. For many years she participated in and led Bible studies, including Community Bible Study, pouring into the lives of countless women. She volunteered for 12 years at the infusion center at the Bon Secours Cancer Institute at St. Francis, serving and praying for patients undergoing treatment in the same place where she received her own cancer treatment. She loved the beach, cherished time with her friends, and had a remarkable gift for making everyone she met feel genuinely seen and loved. Even in her final days, she shared her faith with the nurses and doctors caring for her.
Carole is survived by her husband, Neil Wheeler; daughters Angela Bainter and Betsy Wheeler; son-in-law Patrick Bainter; and granddaughter Julie Bainter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Frances (Vaden) Dillard, and her brother, Jeff Dillard.
A celebration of life will be held at The Chapel in Midlothian, Virginia on Saturday, May 9th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Carole's memory to the Bon Secours Cancer Institute at St. Francis.
