Carole-Ann's obituary

On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, Carole-Ann (Kettyle) Walker passed away at the age of 80.  Carole-Ann was preceded in death by both of her parents, Frank and Lillian (Lockerby) Kettyle, her beloved sister Bonnie-Jean (Kettyle) Thwaites, and her step-mother Dorothy Kettyle.

Carole-Ann unconditionally loved her four daughters, Dana, Lisa, Kimberley and Melanie and was very proud of her nine grandchildren, including Dorothy, Sarah, Kayla, Josh, Zoe, Owen, Bailey, Jack and Tagan.  She was delighted to get to meet her two great-grandchildren, Penelope and Theodore; and was looking forward to the arrival of her great-grandson, “Westley”, due in November!

Carole-Ann enjoyed getting to know her son in laws, Bob, Eric, Mark, Gilles.  She is survived by her cousins David, Julia, Linda, and Ruth; as well as many dear friends across Canada too numerous to list but not forgotten.
Carole-Ann was born on September 23, 1938 in Brownsburg, Quebec. Early on, the family moved to Montreal, Quebec, where Carole-Ann grew up in Westmount and attended Westhill High School.

She studied Commercial Art and Fashion Design at Sir George Williams University and Studio Art at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts de Montreal; as well, she attended Briercrest Bible Institute in Caronport, Saskatchewan. Her love of art was present throughout her life; Carole-Ann enjoyed painting landscapes in oil and in acrylic; doing graphic design projects, and she loved visiting the National Gallery. In her later years, she loved looking at our pictures taken while visiting art galleries in other cities.
Carole-Ann’s parents, Frank and Lillian, performed gospel music across North America and inspired their daughter Carole-Ann to follow in their footsteps. She was a vocal performer in several gospel groups throughout her life. She performed on the radio in Montreal as a youth and young adult. Also, Carole-Ann had attained her Grade 8 piano certification and was an accomplished pianist.  She encouraged a love of music in her daughters and grandchildren throughout their lives.
In 1958, a young James Walker saw Carole-Ann for the first time when she was performing in a gospel trio.  He decided that day that he was going to marry her and he started attending People’s Church of Montreal so that he could meet her.  He followed her to Briercrest Bible Institute and on July 8, 1961, Carole-Ann married Jim and they lived in Montreal.
In 1974, Carole and Jim and their four daughters, Dana, Lisa, Kimberley and Melanie moved to Trenton, Ontario, where Carole-Ann would become actively involved as the pianist and choir director in the Salvation Army. She was also employed by the Salvation Army as the Director of the Lac Lachigan summer camp in the Laurentians where the family spent several summers.

Next, Carole-Ann attended Loyalist College, where she obtained a diploma as a community social worker. Her early social work career was focused on working with youth in Trenton, Ontario and then with developmentally disabled adults in Hamilton, Ontario, where the family moved in the summer of 1978.

Finally, for 45 years, Carole-Ann was a kind and gentle influence for many young people in her role as producer in the New Star Children's Theatre.  Most people will remember her stunning costume designs.  She spent many hours designing and creating elaborate and imaginative costumes for various Broadway shows, caring about every detail in every costume. Carole-Ann was generous in sharing her gifts with every child, giving her time, talent and love to all without hesitation. The New Star family will miss her greatly and her legacy will live on in generations to come.

Carole-Ann asked that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the May Court Hospice. A memorial service for Carole-Ann will be held in the spring of 2020.
