Carole's obituary
Carole A. Yankus, nee Froncek, of Libertyville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 25, 2022 at the age of 82. She was born on April 8, 1940 to Rose and Joseph Froncek in Chicago Heights, IL. She was the beloved wife of over 60 years to Dennis (married January, 1962) and a devoted mother and grandmother. Carole retired as a teacher in 2001 after 34 years of service, most of them at Hawthorn Elementary School in Vernon Hills. She received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education. She had been a resident of Libertyville since 1969 and was a long-time member (and former CCD teacher) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her social and professional skills, and her compassion and generosity.
Carole met her husband, Dennis, on a blind date while undergraduates at Northern Illinois University, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. She was the loving mother of Cara (Anton) Jareb and Denise Yankus Johansen, and the proud grandmother of Colin, Eric and Caroline. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose, and her brother, Joseph.
Carole’s hobbies and interests were diverse. As a child, she loved to dance and contemplated becoming a nun. As an adult, she was an avid diner, movie-watcher, book-reader, and spiritual seeker. She loved spending time with her family, and she was immensely proud of their accomplishments.
