Carol's obituary

Carol Jane Nelson passed away from this world and into the loving arms of Jesus Thursday afternoon, October 27, 2022, surrounded by her beloved husband, children, and dogs in her home on Lake Bob Sandlin in Pittsburg, Texas. She leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Paul Nelson of Pittsburg, TX, her son and daughter in law Eric Rice and Lori Jordan-Rice and grandsons Jarrett Rice, Rylan Rice, and Sterling Rice of Saginaw, TX,  daughter Tresa Rice of Dallas, TX, mother Dorothy Crump of Dallas, TX, sister Margaret Cope of Memphis, TX, sister Cindy Anderson of Bedford, TX, several nieces and nephews, as well as her sweet labs Roxie and Rowdy.
Carol was born on February 7, 1949, in Dallas, Texas. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Dallas Thomas Jefferson High School. Her physical stature was tiny, but her heart, her voice and her impact on the lives of all she encountered was mighty.
She was a fearless trailblazer beginning her career at the Hertz company in 1973 and working her way up in a male dominated field. She retired from Hertz as a supervisor claim adjuster in 2008.
Carol married Paul Nelson in 1981 and they made their home in Lewisville, TX where Paul served as a Captian in the Lewisville Fire Department. Carol spent almost 3 decades filling the beautiful Lewisville home Paul had built with love, laughter, cats, dogs, flowering gardens, crafts, and delightful meals. It was home base for family celebrations and the location of many Lucille Ball style predicaments she found herself in.
Carol and Paul moved to their lake home after their retirement where she continued to be the ever gracious hostess to children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many more guests. Animals who needed a meal or a home found Carol.
Whoever was fortunate enough to sit down at Carol’s table soon became the recipient of all the wonderful foods she would serve. She would always be the last to make her own plate as she eagerly waited to see how her dishes were received. Empty plates, full tummies, and full hearts were her rewards. Just as importantly as the food she served was her wisdom. She would wave a finger as a voice much bigger than her would tell you what she had learned the hard way in hopes you didn’t have to. Contagious laughter was often served with dessert.
Carol’s children describe her the most accurately. In their words, she was the cornerstone and soul of the family. She was the one who baked her love into everything she made. The one who told you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear.  She was easy to love, hard to break, and impossible to forget.
