Carol Irene Basler was born in Ogden Utah – the first child of Virginia and Herman Basler. Herman was a chiropractor and the pioneer of Southern California nursing homes. Virginia served alongside Herman in the nursing homes while raising Carol and her sister Nancy, born two years later.

Carol grew up in Santa Ana, where she attended Santa Ana High School. While attending the University of California at Berkeley, she met her future husband, Donn Moomaw, also a graduate of Santa Ana High, at a College Briefing Conference at Forest Home Christian Camp, where Donn was the keynote speaker. They married in 1958 and had five children within ten years. They moved from Berkeley to Los Angeles in 1964.

Carol was a longtime member of Bel Air Presbyterian Church, where Donn served as Senior Pastor for 28 years. While at Bel Air, Carol led Bible studies and started the Bel Air Women‘s group. She was known among friends and family as the most caring, fun-loving and selfless soul with a huge heart for the marginalized. She devoted her life to her family and her faith.

In 2015, Carol and Donn moved to Monte Vista Grove Homes, where they were surrounded by many lifelong friends in ministry and were deeply cared for by the loving and faithful staff.

Carol is survived by her husband of 66 years, sister Nancy Bjorklund, children Dann Moomaw (Kristin), Michelle Le Beau (Jim), Carrie Brakebush (Dave), Nancy Goodwin (Craig) and Jonn Moomaw (Jennifer) and ten grandchildren.
