Carol's obituary
Carol Ann Lancaster, 78, of Alameda, CA, passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2021.
Carol was born on October 18th, 1942 in Charleroi, PA to Olive and Wilber Meyer. Growing up, she was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Charleroi, and was also a proud member of the Charleroi marching band, where she famously performed in the Macy’s Day parade in New York City. Carol attended Robert Morris University and took her first job with Duquesne Gas. In January 1965, she married Richard Lancaster and had two children, Paul and Brad. Once her oldest began high school, she went back to work for 27 years with the state of Pennsylvania at the Charleroi Job Center. At work, Carol was known to be cheerful, helpful and dependable. Many co-workers said she was the best employee the Job Center ever had, and that is echoed by the many awards she received from the state of Pennsylvania.
Carol was an active member of many churches throughout her life and was a devoted Christian. Her values of service and caring for her community came directly from her faith in God. She very much enjoyed singing in the choir, and cheerfully sang the alto part to every hymn.
Carol retired in 2003 and moved to Alameda, California to be with her sons and her new granddaughter. She spent the last 17 years of her life living in Alameda, where she made many deep friendships. She spent most of her retirement volunteering for the Red Cross and then the Mastick Senior Center where she was well-loved as a co-worker and friend to many in the community.
An avid sports fan, Carol’s favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Golden State Warriors. She enjoyed watching games with her friends and always said it was a dull night if no good sports were on tv.
Carol loved her family deeply. Family meant the world to her, and she was a beloved pillar to her late husband (Richard) two sons (Paul and Brad), her granddaughters (Amaya, Iris and Ruby), her brother and sister-in-law (Bill and Beth Meyer) and their children (Mark Meyer and Carey Anne Curran).
Carol is missed tremendously by her family and many, many friends. We were all blessed to know her and her spirit will live on through us.
A celebration of Carol’s life will take place at the Church of the Covenant in Washington, PA on Saturday, November 20th at 11:30 AM. Please refer to the Events tab for more information.
