Carol's obituary

Carol R. King Lavargna, 2/5/43 – 5/18/20
Carol passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was born in Framingham MA to William and Frances King. Carol – with her parents and four siblings – grew up in Ashland, MA and spent summers on Prudence Island, RI. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1961, having participated in the basketball team, the chorus, cheerleading, and the majorettes. From there she attended nursing school at Westborough State Hospital and graduated top of her class with an LPN degree in 1964. While there she met her first husband Robert Bradbury to whom she was married for 12 years while living in Marlborough MA and together they had three children: Candace, Eric, and Heather. During those years Carol and her family spent many memorable summers in Eastham, MA (Cape Cod). In 1980 Carol met and married her second husband, Richard Lavargna. Carol and Richard lived relocated to Ashland, MA for a number of years until settling in New Smynra Beach, FL. Carol first became a grandmother to Heather’s son Andrew, followed by another grandson named Will – a son of her daughter Candace. A third grandson was born to daughter Heather named Eric. Eric is named after his uncle who tragically died in 1995 from a car accident.

Carol loved her family. She was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother, daughter and sister, auntie and cousin. Family meant everything to her, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was the family photo album keeper and maintained the family tree and historical documents. She loved Christmas and giving special gifts to those she loved. The death of her son left a deep wound that never fully healed.

Carol had a long and dedicated career as a nurse in hospitals, nursing homes, and detox centers in and around Massachusetts and Florida. She loved being a nurse and those in her care always felt the warmth of her giving heart. She really cared deeply about her patients and always made friends with her co-workers.

Carol loved reading. She read constantly and was a regular visitor to her local libraries and bookstores. Not surprisingly one her favorite series was Cherry Ames, Student Nurse. Her son Eric introduced her to world of classical music as he was an accomplished musician. She attended countless rehearsals and recitals and came to love classical music. She was an amazing dancer and usually stole the spotlight at dances and family weddings and other such occasions. In later years she volunteered at her local church’s outreach events and found great comfort in her church community. She always loved everything to do with the ocean and the beaches of Cape Cod and Florida, and enjoyed using the boat she shared with her husband Richard.

She is survived by her daughter Candace and her husband Russell; daughter Heather and her partner Rich, grandsons Andrew, Will, and Eric; brother Leslie (Buddy) and wife Pat; sister Sharon and husband Dave; sister Debbie and husband Jim; sister Jeanne and husband Paul; and ex-sister in-law and best friend Betty Lou; and several nieces and nephews.
