Celebrating the Life of Carol J. Henry
Carol Jean Henry was a dedicated mother, a pillar in her community, and a servant of God. She committed her life to raising her three children, giving back to her community, and living a life filled with love, devotion, and spirituality.
Carol Jean Henry was born on July 15, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Milton Henry and the late Marjorie Mills Henry. Carol transitioned from this physical life and returned to God on October 29, 2022.
Carol Henry spent her preschool years in Brooklyn with her late brother, Donald Henry, and her mother, as her father passed when Carol was an infant. The family later moved to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where she spent her adolescent years. Carol attended and graduated from Central Commercial High School, now known as Norman Thomas High School. During her high school years, Carol was an honor student who excelled in business programs. She was extensively involved in the Educational Alliance on the Lower East Side, commonly referred to by its local nickname, “the Edgies.” The Edgies offers education programs, health services, and diverse cultural enrichment. Carol took classes and received numerous educational services at the Edgies, and later gave back by acting as a tutor and providing services at the Edgies to at-risk youth. Carol loved living on the Lower East Side and often shared stories of her experience growing up there, with people from such diverse racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
After high school, Carol attended Carnegie Mellon University and then Baruch College. Not only was she academically driven, but Carol enjoyed spending time with her friends with whom she maintained lifelong relationships.
In 1972, Carol married her high school sweetheart, Nuriddin Muhammad, and through this union, three beautiful children were born, Donneil, Omar, and Natasha. The family moved to Cambria Heights, Queens, where Carol continued to reside until her passing.
Carol J. Henry has over 25 years of professional experience in business and office administration. She worked for Fortune 500 companies, including Viacom, CitiCorp, and Smith Barney. Blessed with so much talent, tenacity, and grit, she launched a private event planning company, Carol Henry Events, where she coordinated travel arrangements for corporate and private clients.
Although she was a successful businesswoman, her greatest accomplishment was her role as a mother. The love and dedication that Carol showered onto her children is her life’s testament and represents everything that was important to Carol. God was also the center of Carol’s life and household, as well as love of family and education. Carol, who later became a single mother, always emphasized God, love, and education in the household, and worked hard to raise her children. Carol’s teachings passed down to her children, as they are all successful adults that share in their mother’s beliefs. Her daughter Donneil attended Queens College and has worked in the real estate and mortgage industries for over two decades. Her son Omar graduated with honors from Johnson & Whales University and has been a successful accountant and financial analyst for over two decades. Her daughter Natasha graduated from Amherst College and Pepperdine University School of Law, attended Oxford University, and is a Partner at a prestigious law firm in New York City.
Carol's devotion to raising her three children superseded all limits. Despite her demanding career and long hours, she involved herself in every aspect of her children's lives, from planning cultural events to academic enrichment programs. Carol's nurturing qualities expanded to her nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children.
Carol was a pillar in the community, always mentoring and planning events for the neighborhood children, including fashion shows and educational programs. The fruits of her labor are evident in the achievements of her children and grandchildren.
Carol loved spending time with her four grandchildren, including overnight sleepovers that could sometimes last several days. She travelled often with her grandkids, and she especially loved traveling with them to Orlando, Florida and Stowe, Vermont each year. Carol’s home was a special place to gather for the family for holidays and special occasions, and her cooking was exceptional. Carol could whip up a delicious meal of fried chicken, potato salad, lamb chops, mixed greens, sweet potato pie, and banana pudding at the drop of a hat, while entertaining family and friends with style, class, and grace.
She leaves to cherish fond memories of her three children, Donneil (Patrice), Omar, and Natasha (Richard). She also leaves behind the legacy of four grandchildren, Miles, Deane, Ella, and Elijah, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and many friends.
