Carol's obituary

Carol A. Harman (Swiderski) passed away peacefully with family members by her side on May 15, 2023 after a long 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Carol was born in Chicopee, MA on October 8, 1942.  She was the eldest of two children to Peter and Julie Swiderski.   As a teenager, Carol especially enjoyed working summers at the Willimansett Parks and Recreation Center, creating activities and participating with the kids.  After graduating from Chicopee High School in 1960, Carol got her first secretarial position; this was the first of many secretarial/administrative assistant positions she held throughout her working career.  She excelled in these roles, loved to help people and keep everything organized!  Carol was especially proud of her 24 year career at Sanders Associates/BAE Systems as an executive Administrative Assistant.

In her first marriage in the 1960's and 70's, Carol was always the coolest, young mom in the neighborhood.  She frequently hosted house parties, went to many concerts, and always enjoyed a trip to Hampton Beach.   Carol was very close to her mom Julie, better known as Cookie, and the family made frequent visits to her home in Willimansett.  In 1982, Carol married her second husband George Harman.  Throughout her life what Carol cherished most was enjoying time with family, particularly her children and seven grandchildren.  Carol loved hosting family for holidays or any weekend occasion, and always prepared the most wonderful meals!  She and George enjoyed their quiet life in retirement at their beautiful log home in Dunbarton, NH.  Raising and caring for her dachsunds was an important and rewarding part of her life.  Carol also loved gardening and was a member of the Dunbarton Garden Club.  During the long winters in NH, Carol was a rabid Bruins fan, watching all of the games and frequently telling the story of when she met Bobby Orr back in the early 70's.  During the summer months, Carol and George loved to travel.  Some of their favorite spots were Campobella Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada.

Carol is survived by her husband George of 40 years, sons Gary Galica (Sara) and Micheal Galica (Lisbeth Aldazabal) of Niskayuna NY, and step-daughters Jane Sodders (Dave) and Kerry Harman (Michael Chase) of Amherst and Pembroke, NH. She is survived by grandchildren Peter and Nolan Galica, Sabine and Calvin Chase, Nate and Chris Sodders and Ava Galica. Carol is also survived by her brother, Thomas Swiderski (Kathy), and their daughter Rachel of North Hampton, MA.

A private Celebration of Life gathering will be held in late May.  Carol will rest beside her parents in Chicopee, MA at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
