Carol's obituary
Carol Jean Hale (nee Bell)
October 2, 1946 – April 7, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carol Jean Hale, who departed peacefully on April 7, 2026, with her family by her side.
Born to Ernest John and Dortha Caroline Bell, Carol grew up in the Westwood neighbourhood. She attended H.A. Gray School and was a proud graduate of Queen Elizabeth High School.
Her character was deeply shaped by her close bond with her sisters, whom she shared a lifetime of memories. Carol was never happier than when she was with her sisters. Her sisters were her mentors in the art of creating a home. They taught her the value of taking pride in one's surroundings and respecting the things they worked hard for-lessons in stewardship and care that Carol carried with her throughout her life.
Carol’s professional life was marked by her 21-year tenure at the Alberta Medical Association. As the Coordinator of Corporate Affairs, she was highly respected for her dedication and formed lasting bonds with colleagues. Long after her retirement on April 30, 2013, she remained a cherished friend to many, frequently enjoying luncheons with former coworkers.
Outside of work, Carol’s greatest passion was curling. A familiar face at nearly every rink in Edmonton, she won the 2000 Senior Ladies NACA championship with her competitive spirit and skill; her banner still hangs proudly at the Crestwood Curling Club.
Carol cherished the family cabin on 58th Street at Alberta Beach. For over 30 years, it was her sanctuary—a place where she truly loved spending time and creating lasting memories.
In a world where people continually rush towards the next thing, Carol mastered the “long game”. She maintained friendships that began in the hallways of her youth and endured for over sixty years. She was the anchor of sisterhood that survived every season of life, from raising children to the loss of parents to the quiet peace of retirement. Her life was a testament to the fact that even though the passage of time changes many things, friends at the age of sixteen are still the ones who keep your spirit young at 79.
Carol was also a tireless advocate for her community. A resident of Heritage Valley Estates for 19 years, she served as President of the Condo Board, where she worked passionately to shape the welcoming and vibrant environment that exists there today.
A woman of great compassion, Carol had a profound love for dogs. In her later years, she found great joy in rescuing dogs, providing them with a home and unconditional love during their final years. Her dog Charlie also passed recently; they remain bonded spirits.
Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wayne Hale, and her sisters, Marilyn Potter, Joan Cote, and Donna Armitstead.
Her legacy of strength and kindness lives on through her daughters, Denise (Lana) Forwick and Carolyn (Ian) Selin; her grandchildren, Erin and Amy Selin. She will be dearly missed by many friends and extended family members.
Please join us for a Celebration of Carol’s Life to be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Spruce Grove Alliance Church, 250 Century Road, Spruce Grove, AB.
