I was her boyfriend our senior year in college.   We dated right up to a few weeks before graduation.  We never kissed.  She didn't believe in kissing until you were married.  At least that is what she told me.  Maybe it was just me.  Perhaps I was a lot more serious about her than she was about me.  On our last date, she said she had a meeting with the Bishop.   We walked to the meeting place holding hands.  I sat outside the Bishop's office but could hear what they were saying.  She was telling the Bishop things about me that she didn't like.  What the ....  I was hurt.  She never told me those things.  I heard the Bishop say to her, "Guess he's not the one for you."  At that point, I moved to where I could not hear their conversation.   After their meeting we walked to her place -- not holding hands.   We said good night at her door, and I left for my dorm room.   I got the message.  We didn't date again.  Frankly, I was crushed.  I don't think she was.   A couple of years later, she called me.  I was in the Sears management training program.  She was teaching in Lehi.  I think it was Lehi.  We talked about salaries.  Teaching came up on the short end of that conversation.  She said she was leaving teaching, not because of the low pay but because there were no young men to date in the small town where she taught.  We discussed getting together again but it never happened.  I think I would have like it.  Not sure about her.  We met again, years later.   My wife and I took our son to Provo for him to enter the mission training center.   I looked her up and we agreed to meet.  She said she was teaching at a private school in Provo.  I was getting ready to retire from the Air Force after 30 years.   I wanted to be a teacher ever since high school.  It just didn't compare very well on the pay side.  I was hung up on that.  So, after 30 years in the Air Force I thought about teaching.  I figured she could tell me a lot about it.   I was a little skeptical about teaching.  Classroom management, lesson plans, constant grading, things like that.  Seemed like a lot more work than people know.    She didn't want to talk about teaching.  I never understood why.  I think she was at the school in Provo for difficult students.  Perhaps she was a counselor and not a teacher at that point.  But she definitely didn't want to talk to my wife and me about teaching.   We talked about families.   She told us about the problems she had in adopting a girl from Russia.  What a wonderful thing she did.  That is the last time I saw her.  She was a beautiful lady.  Her picture doesn't do her justice.  It only shows the very pretty face.  It doesn't show how pittie and delicate she was.  Five foot two I think and maybe 100 pounds.  Very delicate and very pretty.  I think she gave a lot more in life that she received.  I'm sure she is in a better place.  Maybe we will meet again and this time she'll tell me about teaching.
