Carol's obituary

Carol Marie DeMars, 81, of Brentwood, CA, passed away on November 14th, 2023. Carol was born on October 15, 1942 to Chester & Esther Ansley in Kamloops BC, Canada. She was raised with her 2 older brothers Earl and Bill and younger brother Don. During her early childhood, Carol moved with her family to Northern California and went to elementary school in Oakland and middle school and high school in Lafayette. As a teenager Carol developed a passion for musical theater and played clarinet in the band. During her senior year Carol had the fortune of playing for the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley. She also performed the lead female role in her senior high school musical. She was awarded the “Most Talented” that year and graduated in 1960 from Acalanes High School in Lafayette.

After graduation Carol landed her first job in Oakland as a secretary. Eventually, she got involved in musical theater at the Woodminster Amphitheater in the Oakland hills, where she met her husband, David DeMars in 1963. They married in San Francisco on October 3rd, 1964. They were married for 59 years.

From 1965 to 1970 they had 3 children, Julie, Matthew and Douglas. Carol was a dedicated stay-at-home mom and reentered the workforce after the family moved to Portland Oregon in 1976. Then in 1980, they moved to Ohio, where Dave had an opportunity to sing with a gospel quartet. While living in Ohio, Carol worked as a purchasing agent for the same ministry and sang in the choir. In 1987 they moved to Pleasanton, California to be closer to family. They moved to Brentwood’s Summerset community in 2012.

In 1988 their first grandchild was born, and eventually Carol and Dave were blessed with 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren as of 2022. They truly enjoyed spending time with family.

Carol’s hobbies and interests included reading, Bible study, gardening, healthy cooking, sewing, traveling, wine tasting and anything-music. Carol continued to develop her musical skills well into her 70’s. She loved playing the piano and harp plus singing with Dave in the Summerset Singers Chorus for 8 years.

Their love for music and theater carried down in the family tree. Their favorite family gatherings involved playing the piano and singing together in beautiful harmony. Carol and Dave faithfully shared Woodminster season tickets with family and friends and encouraged joining them while attending shows for over 3 decades. Their passion for music and theater will surely carry on for generations to come.

During her life, Carol developed a strong faith and became a faithful prayer warrior for her loved ones and voiced her passion for the freedoms we hold dear in our country. Her beautiful, precious life and love will be deeply missed.
