Carol's obituary

Delaney, Carol Margarete

Carol Margarete Delaney February 2, 1944 to August 1, 2023.

Carol Margarete Delaney, age 79, of Spokane, Washington peacefully passed away surrounded by love and light on August 1, 2023. Carol was born to Henry Hans Holling and Laura Agnes Holling on February 2, 1944 and grew up in Spangle, WA on a wheat farm along with her beloved brother, Johnny Holling who preceded her in death. Carol was proud of her Spangle roots, where she inherited a strong work ethic from her industrious, German immigrant parents, and felt a strong connection to her hometown throughout her life.

Carol attended Spangle grade school and high school until her junior year when Spangle and Fairfield consolidated into Liberty High School. Carol graduated in 1962 as part of the first graduating class from Liberty High School. Carol moved to Seattle to complete Medical Assistant training, returned home to Spokane and soon began a 47-year career at Rockwood Clinic where she was highly respected and deeply loved. A Rockwood doctor recently remarked that “Carol brought dignity and honor to Rockwood Clinic” and the Carol Delaney Patient Advocacy Room was named as a tribute to her upon retirement.

Carol enjoyed gardening and sewing in her free time. Her house was perfectly decorated with hand-made pillows and curtains, all with the most intricate of details. She meticulously maintained her yard and her flowers were as vibrant and beautiful as her spirit. She naturally had a green thumb and loved “working the dirt” like her adored father. Carol also actively volunteered for Meals on Wheels for Pets and SAFE (Senior Assistance Fund of Washington) and enjoyed attending Ponderosa Republican Women of Spokane County events.

More than anything, Carol loved her daughters, Laura Young and Mollie Forest, with whom she had an unbreakable and everlasting bond. They shared many beautiful memories and “girls’ trips” to Alaska, Mexico, Napa Valley, and Yellowstone National Park. Carol loved her two sons-in-law, David Young and Joe Forest, and was a very proud Oma who witnessed the birth of all three of her grandchildren, Lucy (16) and Ted Forest (12), and Brooks Young (12). In addition, Carol had three grandchildren by marriage, Kelsey Young, Christian Young and Madeline Young, who she loved very much.

Two additional, extremely important individuals in Carol’s life were her life-long best friend Carol Grant, and her beloved dog Harry (now happily living with Mollie), both of whom, along with Mollie and Laura were with Carol at the time of her passing. “With your daughters and best friend, life doesn’t get any better” she said.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 7th floor staff at Deaconess Hospital for their extraordinarily kind and compassionate care of our beautiful mother, especially Dr. Dexter Preugschat, Dr. Rowena Inocencio, nurses Sarah, Aime, Jules, Rachel, Amber, and Debbie W.

A celebration of Carol’s life will take place September 24th at 2 p.m. at the Harvester Restaurant in Spangle, WA, and a Remembrance Mass on Saturday, September 23rd at 5 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima in Spokane.
