Carol's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Smith, who entered into eternal rest on June 1, 2023. Carol was born on February 23, 1952, to Mafalda (Mickey) Headley and Walter Burns.

Carol is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah Smith; her sister, Nancy Ray; her grandson, Bobby Smith; her nephew, Joshua Burns; and her niece, Madison Burns. She was predeceased by her son, Jacob Smith; her mother, Mafalda (Mickey) Headley; her father, Walter Burns; and her brothers, Rickey and Larry Burns. Carol was once married to Bobby Smith.

Carol proudly served her country by joining the US Air Force in 1969. After her service, she dedicated her life to education. In 1983, she began her career at the Meriwether County School System and later joined the Coweta County School System in 1987. During her career, she earned a Master's degree in early childhood education and received the prestigious 1992 Teacher of the Year award. Carol retired from her career in 2013 but remained passionate about education and helping others throughout her life.

Carol was known for her selflessness and her love for children. Her favorite vacation spot was the beach, a place where she found peace and relaxation. Her greatest life lesson was, "You don't have to be the best at everything; just do the best you can do, and you will be your best you!"

Perhaps Carol's most enduring legacy will be her kindness and generosity to everyone, as she opened her heart and home to many children who were not her own. Her love, generosity, and selfless nature will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
