Carol Jane Ayres passed peacefully on Wednesday November 20, 2024, at Ocean Medical Center following a long journey with cancer. Carol was born October 24, 1953 to Kenneth and Lilli Ayres.  Carol grew up in Cresskill, NJ where she developed her life-long passion for music.  In high school, Carol’s vocal talent was recognized when she was invited to join the competitive Bergen All-County Chorus in 1970.  She attended the Central Unitarian Church in Paramus NJ and was active in the church youth groups and summer camp, making many life-long friends along the way.  She attended Stockton College and continued performing with friends and fellow musicians in venues throughout New Jersey.  She worked in Bergen County most of her adult life, including at Prentice Hall Publishing and as a purchasing agent for Cooper Electric.  She and her husband Richard Shapiro retired to Lakewood, NJ.  She loved her family and her many friends.  She loved her books.  And she never stopped loving her music.  She is predeceased by her parents and her beloved brother Phread.  Surviving are her husband Richard, sister in law Helen, nieces Genna and Marcy, cousin Dorie Schmidt Bruen and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
