Carol's obituary
The enchanting, talented and adored Carol Joyce Alpern slipped away on March 4, 2026. Her presence and influence were profoundly impactful on those who knew her.
As an artist, she left behind magnificent paintings, and her creativity expressed itself in everything she did. She saw the world through an independent and unconventional lens which shocked, amused and enlightened anyone around her.
Born in Indiana in January 1943, Carol Joyce Bagan was the eldest of her siblings. A rebellious teen with an independent spirit, she did things her way, ignoring church teachings, leaving home early and becoming a nurse. She met her husband Jerry while working in that capacity, leaving her job when she became a mother. As soon as her kids were in school, she began studying art.
After discovering the Aspen valley on a road trip, Carol invited her family to join her there, because that’s where she was meant to be! After leaving Indiana in 1976, she opened a lively studio art gallery in the Hotel Jerome in Aspen.
Carol loved to ski and hike and camp and travel. She will be sorely missed.
Carol Joyce Alpern was a cherished sister to Loree Huebner, Richard, John and Tony Bagan, a wife to Jerry, a mother to Tyler and Tom, and grandmother to Eli, Sadie Alpern and Jordan Galloway. Jordan’s parents Dan Julio, Sharin Berger, Robin Galloway, plus Eli and Sadie’s mom Therese Alpern, and Diana Flores were her family as well.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 16, 2026, for anyone that loved her, from 3-6 p.m. in Redstone. For details and to RSVP, please send an email to tomalpern@hotmail.com
