Carol's obituary
Born April 14, 1945 at the Old Providence Hospital in Washington, DC to Wayne Alvin and Helen E. (Burroughs) Cushing. Named Carol Agnes Cushing after her grandmother Catherine Agnes (Schroen) Burroughs from DC. whom she never ever met. She passed away at her home in Spotsylvania, VA at the age of ? On mm/dd/yy.
Raised in Catholic Church and attended church at the Chapel on base at NSWC. She grew up in Boomtown and Terrytown at NSWC, Dahlgren, VA.
Graduated 1959 from Dahlgren Elementary School, Dahlgren, VA. Won an Essay award in 8th grade on Conservation of the Soil.
Graduated 1963 from King George High School, King George, VA. Lived and worked in Richmond, VA for several years. Worked at K-Lab at Dahlgren, VA where she met my dad, who also was working there. Lived in the Women's dormitory in the Barracks Building on base. Dad lived in Men's dormitory.
Joined Seventh-day Adventist Church and got married in 1969 to my dad Franklin D. Altman, Jr. Had four children, Franklin Daniel III, John Theodore, Wayne Christopher and Carol Jane.
She suffered from moderate to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and Type II Diabetes for years. She liked to swim and enjoyed attending low impact aerobics classes at the Presidential Resort heated indoor pool in Spotsylvania.
Graduated 2003 from Germanna Community College with a Associates Degree in Information Systems Technology with Magna Cum Laude honors while working full time as a government employee to support her family.
Awarded plaque for 25 years of service to the US Government. Worked at Quantico, VA and Arlington, VA as a Management Support Specialist for Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA). Dahlgren Elementary School came under DoDEA which is an interesting note.
Her parents, husband Frank, Jr., son Wayne Christopher and daughter Carol Jane predeceased her. She is survived by sons Franklin Daniel Altman, III and John Theodore Altman of Spotsylvania, VA, one brother Wayne Richard Cushing, Fredericksburg, VA, two sisters Diana Marie Leathem, Louisville, Kentucky, and Mary Susan Epstein of South Daytona Beach, Florida, six aunts, seven brother-in-laws and six sister-in-laws and many nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren.
She will be buried beside her husband in a private ceremony at Sunset Memorial Gardens and where her son and daughter are also buried.
