Carmen's obituary
January 20, 1934 - January 6, 2020
Carmen was born in La Victoria, Venezuela.
While growing up she loved the markets, outdoor plazas, the vibrancy of the city and the beautiful beaches. One of her favorite places to visit was Margherita Island.
Carmen and her husband Elijah Pavlovic (deceased in 1988) would later raise three children, Nereyda, Ivan and Guillermo. Carmen loved her Spanish heritage, cooking traditional Venezuelan dishes, hosting friend and family dinners and dancing. Carmen also enjoyed latina soap operas and the Miss Universe pageant. She loved spending time with her family and had a witty and dry sense of humor and loved to tell jokes.
Coming to Canada in 1973 because of Venezuela's decline, the family settled in the Wildwood/Rosscarrock area. Carmen worked in downtown Calgary for a number of years as a chef's assistant and attended St. Michael's Catholic Church loyally and faithfully for many years and remained devout in her Roman Catholic faith.
Carmen had four grandchildren and two great grandchildren whom she adored.
As Carmen reached her senior years, her health suffered terribly and painfully with rheumatoid arthritis.
Even with her pain, she rarely complained. Carmen remained as strong as possible until her last day.
While family and friends grieve, Carmen will always be remembered as someone who would do anything within her capacity for anyone. She was truly one of a kind.
