Carmen's obituary

Carmen Laura Rodriguez, a cherished matriarch and devoted soul, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 97. Born on April 15, 1927, in Puerto Rico, Carmen lived a life filled with love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family.

Carmen was a devout Catholic who found great comfort in her faith. She attended Sunday services religiously and, when she could no longer be there in person, made sure to watch them on television. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, shaping the kindness and generosity she extended to everyone around her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Serafin Rodriguez-Ruiz; her parents, Eliseo Rios and Ramona Nieves Tevenal; and many of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Jim David Rodriguez-Rios and Waldemar Rodriguez-Rios; her grandchildren, Mario David Rodriguez, Miguel Serafin Rodriguez (Sadie), Alliana Raquel Rodriguez, Gabrielle Laura Rodriguez(Stephano), and Jazzelle Victoria Lopez-Green; and her two great-grandchildren, Christopher David Hammock and Messiah Armani Rodriguez. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins who will forever cherish her memory.

Carmen had a deep passion for cooking, gardening, and sewing—skills that brought warmth and joy to those around her. Her home was always a welcoming place where family gathered for delicious meals made with love. She spent much of her life traveling the world alongside her husband, creating cherished memories that spanned continents. Abuela had a fiery spirit and a sharp wit that could light up any room. Her humor was bold, sometimes unfiltered, and often spicier than a plate of chiles. While not all of her jokes translated smoothly into English, those who knew her understood that her warmth and humor were unforgettable.

Above all else, Carmen dedicated herself to caring for others. Whether it was looking after her parents and siblings or nurturing generations of children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, she embodied selflessness. Her home was not just a house but a sanctuary where love flourished. Anyone who walked through her door knew they would be met with kindness—and likely a hot meal waiting for them at the table.

Abuela will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
