Carmen's obituary

My grandma, Carmen Jorge, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 11, 2024. She was 95 years old.

She was born in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico.  After her marriage to my Grandpa, Antonio Jorge, she traveled to NY in 1946 with her infant daughter in search of better opportunities.  She established herself and dedicated her life to serve God.

As the years passed, she had two more children and became a Church Missionary and a Chaplain at Lincoln Hospital in The Bronx.

She was very well known in the New York Pentecostal church community as a Preacher, Evangelist and Sunday school teacher to adults & youth.  She was extremely passionate about her spiritual life and wanted to share it with everyone. She won many lives for God, touched the hearts of so many through her good works.

After 40+ years in NY, she and my Grandad retired to Cayey, Puerto Rico, where the family would reunite and visit as often as possible. She continued her work for The Lord and became a staple in her community.

Later on, she became a widow. Years later her health began to decline.  We thought it’d be best she be around family and she moved to Florida with her granddaughter.  She was eventually moved back to NY with her daughter. The signs of Alzheimer’s had begun.  She lived with this disease for almost 10 years until The Lord called her home.

My grandmother loved her family. She was a great Mom and an amazing  grandma, wife, sister, aunt & friend. She helped anyone in need and made a positive impact on those who knew her.

May the life she lived and her love for God be her legacy for us to carry on in her honor. Sleep in Peace Queen🤍

She is survived by her eldest daughter, Carmen Gonzalez & son in law Henry Gonzalez, grandchildren; Anthony Gonzalez & wife Johanna Gonzalez,  Nairza Castillo & husband Michael Castillo, Tanya Jorge, Yasmin Perez & husband Antonio Perez, Joe Vega & wife Jennessa Vega, great-grandchildren; Natalie, Tatiana, Michael, Gabriella, Michael Anthony, Desiree, Alexis, Ejuan, Nyla, Miah, Travis, Vincent and 14 great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death: Husband Antonio Jorge, daughter Nairza Simek, son Carlos Antonio Jorge and great-grandson Jordan Anthony Gonzalez.
