Carlton's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carlton Alfred Clarke, affectionately known as “Scruge,” on December 4, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on February 8, 1954, Carlton lived a life of purpose, dedication, and passion, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A proud alumnus of St. George’s College (Class of 1972), Carlton later pursued higher education at Saint Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree on a tennis scholarship, a testament to his dedication both on and off the court. His love for tennis would later evolve into a passion for table tennis, where he not only excelled as a player but also as a coach and mentor to many, including his daughter, Carla, who represented Jamaica and UWI in the sport.
Carlton devoted over three decades of his professional life to Glenmuir High School, where he was a beloved teacher of Accounting and Business Studies. His unwavering commitment to education shaped countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and inspiration.
His love for teaching and sports was matched only by his love for family and community. Carlton’s legacy lives on through his daughter, Carla Allen (née Clarke); his cherished sisters, Ingrid, Cheryl, and Pam; his beloved grandchildren; and a wide circle of family, friends, and former students who will always remember his wit, warmth, and wisdom.
The family will share details on the memorial arrangements in the coming days.
“Forever in our hearts, may he rest in eternal peace.”
