Carlos's obituary

Carlos Montanez, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, 74, of Alamogordo, New Mexico went to be joined with the Lord on September 17, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Delia and children Teresa Binkley (Robert), Ruth Stahly (Craig), Carlos Montanez (Letika), David Montanez (Kathy), and Jeremy Montanez (Kim). His kindness, intelligence, compassion and love will be carried on by his 10 grandsons and 8 granddaughters.
Carlos worked with AAFES for 32 years and during that time he instilled a love of travel and good food in his children. His work ethic was evident in the fact that he started work as a stocking clerk while still in high school and retired as a manager even though he did not have a college degree. Carlos and his family moved regularly with his job to stations in Spain, Germany, Philippines, Vietnam, Hawaii, California, Michigan, Arizona, & Texas.
On the weekends, he enjoyed working in the yard with the boys and listening to music from Cat Stevens, The Mocedades, and Bob Dylan. On Sunday, he was dedicated to thanking God for all his blessings and to rest while catching up on the latest football or baseball games. Another accomplishment that made us proud was how involved he was with the fundraising and coordinated construction of the new Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in California City, California in 1981 while working at Edwards Air Force Base and raising 5 children.
He always loved visiting his brothers and sisters in Ysleta, Texas. He enjoyed taking everyone to Old Mesilla, New Mexico, where he grew up, for good Mexican food and the local farmers market. He often told stories of running around in the fields eating cantaloupes and tomatoes with his older brothers when they were younger. He loved picking pecans from the local trees.
His strength and “we can do it” attitude helped his children through house moves, hospital stays and many other life milestones.
It is with deep sorrow and pain that we goodbye to Carlos; husband & father. He will always be in our hearts.
He will be having a blessed reunion with his mother, Dolores.
