It is with a heavy heart that we share the profoundly sad news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Mr. Carlos Herrera. Carlos passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at the age of 67 after a long battle with kidney failure. Carlos was a cherished member of our campus community for 13 years. As the College’s Associate Director of Disability Services, he helped to transform the lives of thousands of students with disabilities through his ethic of care and tireless advocacy on their behalf. Chief among the most indelible features of Carlos’ remarkable legacy was his role in founding the CUNY Accessibility Conference, which we launched as a small university wide in-service training among campus assistive technology professionals and helped to grow into a nationally recognized conference. Earlier this month, in its 12th year, the conference drew more than 1,000 registrants from across the country. Carlos’ presence will surely be missed. Please keep Carlos Herrera’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult period of mourning.
