Carlos's obituary

Carlos Antonio Castillo Alcerro, 67, passed away on March 6, 2024, at North Shore Medical Center in Miami, Florida, after a battle with cerebrovascular disease.

Born on July 25, 1956, in La Paz, La Paz, Honduras, Carlos was raised in a large and vibrant family that instilled in him the values of humility, perseverance, and faith. He graduated from secondary school in La Paz in 1974 and later pursued work in his local town. He became a father of six children with two spouses Maria de Jesus Nunez and Octavila Munez. In 1992, with the support of his uncle Luis Alcerro and sister Maria Teresa Castillo Ruiz, Carlos made the life-changing move to the United States in pursuit of the American dream-including his new career of tire shopping and maintenance construction.

Carlos was a man of quiet strength and unwavering determination. Though reserved by nature, he was deeply connected to his family and community. He found joy in gathering with his sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and his eight children. His presence was calm yet energetic—marked by a thoughtful demeanor and a charming spirit.

A devout Christian, Carlos often spoke about God and Jesus. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and gave him strength through both joyful and challenging times. He credited his spiritual upbringing for sustaining him physically and mentally throughout his journey.

Among his many passions, soccer held a special place in Carlos’s heart. He loved attending matches for his home team and cherished the camaraderie that came with being part of the crowd. He also had a deep appreciation for reading, painting or drawing, history, science, and technological interests that reflected his curious mind and creative soul.

Carlos’ double career in the United States was a success before he once met Angela Andrea Fernandez. Despite never married together, they remained close until 2003, having two children together. Carlos took immense pride in being a father not only in Honduras and in the United States . Part of his greatest legacy lives on through his two American-born children: Epson Gabriel Fernandez and Brianna Carla Sophia Fernandez Cordovi. Epson was born a month early and diagnosed with autism while his daughter Brianna was born later in 2001. He did the best he can to raise his son without letting Everything was well until their mother’s downfall, which explains why he left the family house due to the mother’s dramatic mental episodes and later the two children were removed and separated from each other and placed in group homes or adoption homes. Leaving Carlos devastated, he fought for over a decade to find them, see them and bring him back into his care without Angela and it was unfortunate that this day never came to be. He was their only parent that was concerned for their wellbeing.

Despite personal hardships and life’s complexities—including a difficult relationship with his former girlfriend and the children’s mother Angela Fernandez, his difficult addiction to alcohol and tobacco, losing his jobs and residence in later years—Carlos remained steadfast in his role as a soulful man and protector and guide to his grown two children. He always prayed and hopeful that he would see his children again. His love never wavered. He stood by his children through every challenge, offering them strength through example. His autistic son’s success as a university graduate and a forthcoming computer scientist is a testament to Carlos’s enduring support and belief that anything is possible through perseverance. The same goes to Brianna-as she became a psychologist-.

In the final months of his life, Carlos faced financial and health struggles with courage and grace. Even during difficult days, he remained determined to keep moving forward with good spirit. The moments shared with his son during their reunions were filled with meaning—memories that will be cherished forever.

Carlos leaves behind an extensive family who knew him as a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. Among those who mourn his passing are Maria Teresa Castillo Ruiz; Maria de Jesus Castillo; Marixa Castillo; Rina Castillo; Manuel Francisco Castillo Alcerro; Henry Alcerro; Luz Ruiz; Sunil Ruiz; Jesus Morony Castillo; Santos Jose Machuca; Franklin Munguia; Katy Castillo; Yaheli Machuca; Rosa Rodriguez; Patricia Alcerro; Brianna Carla Sophia Fernandez Cordovi; Epson Gabriel Fernandez; Baryon Castillo; Carlos Alberto Castillo; Reina Maria Castillo; Karla Castillo; Dony Castillo; Juan Carlos Medina; Maryori Medina; Yosara Medina; Anthony Dariel Castillo; Maria de Jesus Nunez; Octavilia Munoz; Ramon Castillo; Jesusita Castillo; Luis Alberto Rodriguez; Aurelio Castillo; Anasire Castillo; Cesar Munguia; Ramon Joel Machuca; and Carlos Antonio Alcerro Cerrato.

Rest in peace to the best father of all. Ma
