Carla's obituary
Carla Ruth Garms Wiederhold, 60, was called home to the Lord on January 12th, 2026. Although a resident of Andover for over two decades, she was born and raised in Royal, Iowa. She was born on February 2nd, 1965 to Richard Otto Garms and Freida Ann Dietzen Garms. She was baptized that same year on March 25th in the home of Otto and Elsie Garms. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church; her confirmation verse was John 10:27-28, which guided her throughout her life.
In 1983, she graduated from Clay Central High School. After graduation, she moved to Minnesota, but she always kept in contact with her friends and family in Iowa. She received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Concordia College. Afterwards, she completed a master’s degree from St. Mary’s University in Human Development. Starting in 1986, she worked for Honeywell for ten years. She spent the next four years at a variety of jobs, including an office assistant for Amway Diamonds, Welcome Wagon, and an independent trainer and consultant traveling throughout the USA, Europe, and Asia.
Carla met Eric Wiederhold in December of 1992, and they were married on April 30th, 1994. They had three daughters together, and some of her favorite memories are from their family vacations. Carla enjoyed creating memories, and she would document her travels and experiences in her scrapbooks or photo books.
In June of 2000, she began her work as Director for Children’s Ministry at Family of Christ Lutheran Church. For the next twenty years, she would be commonly known as Miss Carla, and would share the Gospel with all those who crossed her path through her inspiring messages and engaging lessons. Starting in June of 2020, she transitioned to an office role to work alongside her best friend at Select Eyecare.
She won the battle against cancer back in 2015, and after being in remission for several years, she unfortunately started her second battle in 2024 and continued to fight these past two years. She is survived by her spouse, Eric, and her daughters Haley, Greta, and Rachel. She is also survived by her brother, David. She has joined her parents, Richard and Freida, in Heaven. A service will be held at Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Ham Lake on January 31st at 11:00 am. There will be a visitation prior to the service, starting at 9:30 am.
Carla had a strong passion to make a Kingdom Difference. She was a supporter of Ysleta Lutheran Mission and regularly took mission trips beginning back in 1989 with her final mission trip in November of 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a direct donation to Ysleta as a memorial to Carla at https://ylm.org.
