Carl L. Jones Sr.
On February 11, 1943 our Heavenly Father gifted Marion E. Jones and Carlos G. Bryson with a baby boy. He was named Carl Larry Jones, He was born and raised in East St. Louis and Fireworks Station and was blessed to have known and spent time with his grandmother, Mrs. Grizella Williams-Jones and great grandmother Mrs. Carrie Price. Carl was educated within the East St Louis School system and still maintains a membership and relationship of love, friendship and comradery with classmates from The East St Louis Lincoln Sr. High Class of 1961.
Carl confessed a belief and hope in Christ and was baptized at Tabernacle MB Church in Alton, Illinois. He later united with Parks Chapel A.M.E Church in Centerville, IL, under Rev. Charles Boater, now Rev. Mary Ela Williams.
In the Fall of 1961 he decided to serve his Country and enlisted in the United States Army where he received several decorations, commendations and citations as a Marksman, M1 Rifle Expert, First Class Gunner, M14 Expert Rifle and earning his Parachutist Badge, He was a Naval Reservist in the United States Naval Reserves.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Linda Finley of Tennessee on September 19, 1965. Larry and Linda were married over 56 years. He was the father of 9 children. Daughter, who LaDawn preceded him in death.
For more than 30 years he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in St Louis, MO., served as a Police Officer for the City of Alton, IL. Police Department was employed for the St. Clair County Mental Health services was a private business owner and was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Carl was a Master Mason, a member and Past Master of St. Paul Lodge #42 in E. St. Louis, IL. and the Tyree Consistory. In May of 1992 he was created Grand Inspector General of 33rd Degree and elevated to membership in This United Supreme Council. He was a former Worthy Patron of Eastern Light Chapter #68 of E. St. Louis, IL.
Larry as he was affectionately called by his Family transitioned from this life on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. while sitting in his favorite chair, watching tv and waiting on his wife as he said to “hurry up and get on back here.” He was preceded in death by his parents Carlos & Marion, grand/great grandparents, 3 sisters (Brenda, Tiny, Lynn), 1 brother (Renard) 5 uncles, 3 aunts, 1 grandson and 1 nephew.
He is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Linda, sons; Quintin, James (Valerie), Carl Jr. (Tasha), Michael (April), daughters; Lisa, Yvette, Carmen (Charles), and Crystal. Sisters: Phyllis and Darlene Cobbs brothers; Corey, Mark, Rod, Carlos Jr. Chip and Rabbit, 1 sister-in-law, Annie Jackson;22 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild; aunts, Victoria (Vicky) and Tressie Jones, 1 special, close 1st cousin; Douglas (Yvette) Jones, and a host of other relatives and friends.
