When asked what he would like for a gathering of loved ones after his departure, he thought for a minute, then said "a garden party at the house." I can't think of anything more appropriate to remember him. He loved gardening. We brought many of the plants here from the Tortuga Roja Bed and Breakfast property when we closed her and moved here. Others were gifts from friends. Some were purchased on travels. Plants and seeds collected on his life journey continue to grow here at our "mud palace."
The house and gardens will be open to celebrate and remember Carl from 10am-2pm. You are welcome to come for any portion, listen to some music, wander the garden, listen to life and love, enjoy some food, share memories, talk to friends you haven't seen for a while, and make some new ones. Come as you are. Leave with some peace, and perhaps more stories to share.
If you have photos of Carl, bring them with you to share! We are creating a digital archive of photos of Carl's life and friends and activities, and would love to add yours to it. We will have a room in the house set up as "The Photo Booth" where you can look at the slideshow of photos we have collected, and scan yours in to the archive.
Also, consider writing down stories you might be fond of sharing about Carl. These can be shared at "Storytelling Grove" in the garden, or for the storytelling hour of the program, or both! At "Storytelling Grove" you can either drop off your written story, or better, read or tell the story on camera for a video archive we will be creating.
Dress casual. We honor Carl best by being comfortable and being ourselves. That's what he would want!
Our neighborhood has a front gate with a call box. We have been given a code for the day. That code is #3958. Note that you need to enter the inital # symbol as part of entering the code.
We have spoken to the homeowner's association for our neighborhood, and it is agreed that you can park along the side of the road for this event. Neighbors will be notified. Please park courteously: don't obstruct or damage anything that our neighbors have poured time, money or attention into creating!
