Calvin's obituary
Calvin Walker passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on April 16, 2026.
Calvin was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1946. His mother taught him to be a responsible man, but did admit he could be mischievous at times. His strong work ethic was imprinted at a young age when working with his father. He graduated from Solomon M. Coles High School in 1964. As a member of the track team, as in life, he faced his challenges jumping one hurdle at a time.
When the military called in 1966, Calvin joined the United States Air Force where he learned the value of diversity and richness of different cultures. A lifetime of punctuality, discipline and orderliness can be attributed to his military training. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served his country bravely meeting the stressful demands of safe air traffic. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service from June 1969 to August 1970 as a Control Technician, Alpha Crew, 619th Tactical Control Squadron, Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston. In 1972 he began a career as an Information Technology professional. In Texas he worked in the banking, energy and technology industries. In 1989 he ventured into entrepreneurship in agriculture. In 1997 an opportunity in I.T. Public Relations was pursued at Hewlett-Packard. In 2012 he retired after 40 dedicated years in the work force. In 2018 he and his wife relocated to North Carolina to retire near the calm of the ocean, forests and mountains.
Calvin was intellectually gifted, spent his life consumed in deep thought and was known for being inquisitive. He enjoyed the serenity of the outdoors and visited many state and national parks. Favorite pastimes included traveling the world, hiking, biking, fishing, gardening, photography and he was a voracious reader. He gave back to his community volunteering at Brazos Bend State Park in Texas where he shared his love of nature with others. He also assisted fellow seniors with the AARP Tax Aide program where he helped prepare federal tax returns.
Mr. Walker is survived by his loving wife Debra, brother Tom (BJ), son Craig (Leslie), daughter Shelley (Joe), nieces (Anita, Joyce, Jackie, Patricia, Tamara) , nephews (Charles, Calvin, David, Sharif), two beautiful grandchildren, mother-in-law Fran and sister-in-law Pam.
Calvin often said, “I have lived a good life.” He would wish you to enjoy the same.
Coming from modest means, he carried empathy in his soul for those with fewer opportunities. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in his name, to an organization that supports a youth program in your community.
